The 3-cart system used to serve residents of Carson helps maintain a neat appearance and tidy neighborhoods on collection day.

1. Trash goes into your Gray cart. All materials must fit inside your carts or containers. No loose bags will be collected.

2. Green Waste goes into your Green cart. Green waste accepted includes grass clippings, leaves, brush, shrubbery prunings, sawdust, tree trimmings, and tree limbs smaller than 4" in diameter. Please do NOT place any of these into Green carts: NO palm fronds, NO cactus or yucca, NO dirt or rocks. NO plastic or paper bags, NO pet waste, and NO food waste.

3. Recyclables go into your Blue cart. You can recycle all of these items:

• All aluminum and steel cans
• All colors of glass bottles and jars.

• Clear, colored and white plastic containers, if labeled on the bottom.

• Newspapers and inserts
• Junk mail
• White ledger paper
• Corrugated cardboard
• Magazines
• Colored and construction paper
• Cereal boxes (with liners removed)
• Telephone books

Please remember that these items are NOT recyclable and should be placed into your Trash cart: aluminum foil, scrap metal, window or safety glass, mirrors, light bulbs, styrofoam, wax paper, ceramics, drinking glasses, plastic wrap, food waste, packaging materials, and Pyrex glass.

By placing all of your green waste and recyclables into your green waste and recyclables into your Green and Blue carts, your will be able to decrease the amount of refuse that you place into your Trash cart. If you have more green waste and recyclables than will fit into your existing carts, you may call 310-830-7100 to request additional green waste and recycling carts.

The following holidays are observed by Waste Management:

• Thanksgiving Day
• Christmas Day
• New Year's Day
• Memorial Day
• Independence Day
• Labor Day

If your regular collection day falls on or after one of these days, your refuse and recyclables will be picked up a day later than normal. For instance, if the holiday is on a Thursday, such as Thanksgiving , residents who normally have Thursday collection would have collection on Friday, and those who normally have Friday collection would have Saturday collection.

Waste management offers free collection and recycling of real Christmas trees. Up to 14 days after Christmas, your may leave your tree on the curb on your scheduled collection day along with your carts. These trees will be recycled, so please REMOVE all tinsel, garland, ornaments, lights, and stands. Trees must be no longer than 6 feet in length. If your tree was taller than 6 feet, please cut it in half to create two shorter pieces.

Flocked trees will be accepted but cannot be recycled.
